The Drill America DWDCO series Qualtech economy cobalt steel reduced shank drill bit is made of heat-resistant cobalt steel and ground to a heavy-duty 135-degree split point. It features a common flute and overall length for minimal adjustment during tool changes, and is precision-ground for a high degree of concentricity between the shank and body diameter, making it ideal for drilling in tough, high-tensile-strength materials.

Cobalt steel tools are similar to high-speed steel, but with more cobalt for improved performance when cutting harder metals, such as stainless steel or nickel alloys. The gold oxide surface treatment is thinner than the typical black oxide, and it is used to identify cobalt steel tools, with performance similar to uncoated tools.
